New and Updated Portfolios Are On the Way...

FEBRUARY 2012

I am pleased to announce that updates to all six portfolios are near completion and will be available soon. In the meantime, I have just added a brand new portfolio: iPhoneography. The expressive possibilities that modern camera phones and camera apps are capable of are nothing short of extraordinary. To commemorate my first two months' worth of images, I've prepared a short(ish) film.

MEG Member Show: Small Works

DECEMBER 2011

This month's show at Multiple Exposures Gallery, juried by Catriona Fraser, includes four works of mine which feature graphic depictions of trees. Although the subject is the same for all, each image is completely different by way of which method I used to capture the photo: Holga plastic camera, tilt-shift lens, or medium-format film camera. In addition, one of the trees is, in fact, not a tree at all. Rather, it is a life-sized aluminum recreation! You can view all four on my Facebook Albums page.

The Small Works show runs from December 1, 2011 – January 1, 2012.

MEG Member Show: Everything is Alternative

NOVEMBER 2011

Multiple Exposures Gallery's new show, "Everything is Alternative," juried by Sara Yousefnejad, showcases the myriad ways in which the photographers at MEG have arrived at their final visions. The prints on the wall present explorations of historic, digital and many other processes. For my submission, I dug deep into my library of Holga images to uncover this amazing accident, caused by the plastic back cover popping off while the camera was loaded with film. If I deliberately tried a thousand times, I could never replicate what is seen here in my image titled, "Mesa Verde Alternative."

The show runs November 8 – 30, 2011.

MEG Member Show: Signature Images

NOVEMBER 2010

Multiple Exposures Gallery members present their Signature Images for its current show. Throughout the course of an artist’s lifetime, there are those images that stand apart, ones most resonant, to viewers and to the photographer. These are images with universal presence, timeless communication and meaning. And it is these images that most exemplify personal style and become synonymous with the artist.

The show runs November 2 – 28, 2010.

Two New Honors

APRIL 2010

I am pleased to announce two recent honors that I received within days of one another: On Tuesday, April 6, I learned that I had become one of only 10 new 2D juried artists at the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, VA. Three days later I received a letter in the mail informing me that I had just been awarded a Strauss Fellowship by the Arts Council of Fairfax County. All in all, it was a pretty good week!

Fall Exhibition: The Art of Structure

OCTOBER 2009

AoS PortfolioI am pleased to announce my new show called "The Art of Structure." The use of the word structure in the title refers to objects built by man, though not necessarily buildings. Many of the images here are buildings, but structure can also refer to a chair, a door knob, or even a utility pole. The intent is not to present a depiction of a building, instead my interest in these constructions is with how they relate to their environment: the interaction of the man-made and the natural world.

The exhibition features 27 black & white photographs, and is currently on display at the Cox Communication's NVA headquarters in Herndon, VA, through December 2009. Unfortunately, the show is not open to the public. However, you may view all of the works included by clicking on the thumbnail above.

I hope you like it!

Multiple Exposures

JUNE 2009

For my inaugural post, I thought I would take the opportunity to announce that I have just become the newest member of Multiple Exposures Gallery at the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, VA. It is quite an honor for me to be accepted as a peer among 14 outstanding fine art photographers. While it took a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication to achieve this recognition, I am even more excited about where I go from here on my journey as a developing photographer ...and as an artist.
